Bathing In The River Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCD EEFFGGG HHIIAAA JJAAKLL BBMMNGG OOPPQQQ

The fish around her crowded as they doA
To the false light that treacherous fisher shewA
And all with as much ease might taken beB
As she at first took meB
For ne'er did light so clearC
Among the waves appearC
Though every night the sun himself set thereD
-
Why to mute fish shouldst thou thyself discoverE
And not to me thy no less silent loverE
As some from men their buried gold commitF
To ghosts that have no use of itF
Half their rich treasures soG
Maids bury and for aught we knowG
Poor ignorants They're mermaids all belowG
-
The amorous waves would fain about her stayH
But still new amorous waves drive them awayH
And with swift current to those joys they hasteI
That do as swiftly wasteI
I laugh'd the wanton play to viewA
But 't is alas at land so tooA
And still old lovers yield the place to newA
-
Kiss her and as you part you amorous wavesJ
My happier rivals and my fellow slavesJ
Point to your flowery banks and to her shewA
The good your bounties doA
Then tell her what your pride doth costK
And how your use and beauty's lostL
When rigorous winter binds you up with frostL
-
Tell her her beauties and her youth like theeB
Haste without stop to a devouring seaB
Where they will mix'd and undistinguish'd lieM
With all the meanest things that dieM
As in the ocean thouN
No privilege dost knowG
Above th' impurest streams that thither flowG
-
Tell her kind flood When this has made her sadO
Tell her there's yet one remedy to be hadO
Show her how thou though long since past dost findP
Thyself yet still behindP
Marriage say to her will bringQ
About the self same thingQ
But she fond maid shuts and seals up the springQ
