The fish around her crowded as they do	A
To the false light that treacherous fisher shew	A
And all with as much ease might taken be	B
As she at first took me	B
For ne'er did light so clear	C
Among the waves appear	C
Though every night the sun himself set there	D

Why to mute fish shouldst thou thyself discover	E
And not to me thy no less silent lover	E
As some from men their buried gold commit	F
To ghosts that have no use of it	F
Half their rich treasures so	G
Maids bury and for aught we know	G
Poor ignorants They're mermaids all below	G

The amorous waves would fain about her stay	H
But still new amorous waves drive them away	H
And with swift current to those joys they haste	I
That do as swiftly waste	I
I laugh'd the wanton play to view	A
But 't is alas at land so too	A
And still old lovers yield the place to new	A
	-
Kiss her and as you part you amorous waves	J
My happier rivals and my fellow slaves	J
Point to your flowery banks and to her shew	A
The good your bounties do	A
Then tell her what your pride doth cost	K
And how your use and beauty's lost	L
When rigorous winter binds you up with frost	L

Tell her her beauties and her youth like thee	B
Haste without stop to a devouring sea	B
Where they will mix'd and undistinguish'd lie	M
With all the meanest things that die	M
As in the ocean thou	N
No privilege dost know	G
Above th' impurest streams that thither flow	G

Tell her kind flood When this has made her sad	O
Tell her there's yet one remedy to be had	O
Show her how thou though long since past dost find	P
Thyself yet still behind	P
Marriage say to her will bring	Q
About the self same thing	Q
But she fond maid shuts and seals up the spring	Q
