THE thirsty earth soaks up the rainB
And drinks and gapes for drink againC
The plants suck in the earth and areD
With constant drinking fresh and fairE
The sea itself which one would thinkF
Should have but little need of drinkF
Drinks twice ten thousand rivers upG
So fill'd that they o'erflow the cupG
The busy Sun and one would guessH
By 's drunken fiery face no lessH
Drinks up the sea and when he 's doneI
The Moon and Stars drink up the SunI
They drink and dance by their own lightJ
They drink and revel all the nightJ
Nothing in Nature 's sober foundK
But an eternal health goes roundK
Fill up the bowl then fill it highL
Fill all the glasses there for whyL
Should every creature drink but IL
Why man of morals tell me whyL
