Bredon Hill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBD EFGFF HIJII HKEKK LAMAA MMHMM ANJNN

In summertime on BredonA
The bells they sound so clearB
Round both the shires the ring themC
In steeples far and nearB
A happy noise to hearD
-
Here of a Sunday morningE
My love and I would lieF
And see the coloured countiesG
And hear the larks so highF
About us in the skyF
-
The bells would ring to call herH
In valleys miles awayI
Come all to church good peopleJ
Good people come and prayI
But here my love would stayI
-
And I would turn and answerH
Among the springing thymeK
Oh peal upon our weddingE
And we will hear the chimeK
And come to church in timeK
-
But when the snows at ChristmasL
On Bredon top were strownA
My love rose up so earlyM
And stole out unbeknownA
And went to church aloneA
-
They tolled the one bell onlyM
Groom there was none to seeM
The mourners followed afterH
And so to church went sheM
And would not wait for meM
-
The bells they sound on BredonA
And still the steeples humN
Come all to church good peopleJ
Oh noisy bells be dumbN
I hear you I will comeN
