Poet's note: The story is about a girl who meets a boy. They live close to each other, so close, that the girl can see the boy in his room through her window. This is what "He's always standing by the ceiling" (the bird) refers to. The girl and boy hang out but nothing serious is going on. She finds out that the boy has friends from his side (which is what, "the next day she saw him with another bird" refers to.) and she realizes she probably doesn't stand a chance. So the little bit of hanging out they had turn out to be just like, a summer fling.
