To The Holy Spirit Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDEDEC FGFGHIHIJKKJ LMLMNONOPQPQ RSRSTUTUVNWXXY

Immeasurable hazeA
The desert valley spreadsB
Up golden river bedsB
As if in other daysA
Trees rise and thin awayC
And past the trees the hillsD
Pure line and shade of dustE
Bear witness to our willsD
We see them for we mustE
Calm in deceit they stayC
-
High noon returns the mindF
Upon its local factG
Dry grass and sand we findF
No vision to distractG
Low in the summer heatH
Naming old graves are stonesI
Pushed here and there the seatH
Of nothing and the bonesI
Beneath are similarJ
Relics of lonely menK
Brutal and aimless thenK
As now irregularJ
-
These are thy fallen sonsL
Thou whom I try to reachM
Thou whom the quick eye shunsL
Thou dost elude my speechM
But when I go from senseN
And trace thee down in thoughtO
I meet thee then intenseN
And know thee as I oughtO
But thou art mind aloneP
And I alas am boundQ
Pure mind to flesh and boneP
And flesh and bone to groundQ
-
These had no thought at mostR
Dark faith and blinding earthS
Where is the trammeled ghostR
Was there another birthS
Only one certaintyT
Beside thine unfleshed eyeU
Beside the spectral treeT
Can I discern these dieU
All of this stir of ageV
Though it elude my senseN
Into what heritageW
I know not seems to fallX
Quiet beyond recallX
Into irrelevanceY
