Ballad About False Beacons Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST UVWWXAYZA2Y

We've been bewitched by countless liesA
by azure images of iceB
by false promises of open sky and seaC
and rescued by a God we don't believeD
Like coppers rattling from a beggar's plateE
guiding lights have fallen on our daysF
and burned and diedG
We've pressed our shipH
a pilgrimage of nights toward such lightsI
as always elusive lured and trickedJ
the keel upon the rocks and rippedK
the helmhold from the hand and lashedL
the beggared palm to scrapsM
Ice tightens at the bow and breathN
To dock to dropp the anchor to its restO
to drift a dream on waters quietedP
and calmed We can't We're after a mirageQ
The whiskered walrus brays the sea salt thawsR
Again we're offS
Raised on powdered milk we'll have no faithT
in beacons any longer nor mistakeU
real for fake or waking for a dreamV
Beacons can't be trusted Trust insteadW
the will of your own hand and headW
Again the captain waves his glassX
sights a beacon turns and criesA
'Helmsman There's a beacon Are you blind 'Y
But Helmsman with the truer eyeZ
thinks mutiny and grumblesA2
'A mirage 'Y
