Rude is this Edifice and Thou hast seenA
Buildings albeit rude that have maintainedB
Proportions more harmonious and approachedC
To closer fellowship with ideal graceD
But take it in good part alas the poorE
Vitruvius of our village had no helpF
From the great City never upon leavesG
Of red Morocco folio saw displayedH
In long succession pre existing ghostsI
Of Beauties yet unborn the rustic LodgeJ
Antique and Cottage with verandah gracedK
Nor lacking for fit company alcoveL
Green house shell grot and moss lined hermitageM
Thou see'st a homely Pile yet to these wallsN
The heifer comes in the snow storm and hereO
The new dropped lamb finds shelter from the windP
And hither does one Poet sometimes rowQ
His pinnace a small vagrant barge up piledR
With plenteous store of heath and withered fernS
A lading which he with his sickle cutsT
Among the mountains and beneath this roofU
He makes his summer couch and here at noonV
Spreads out his limbs while yet unshorn the SheepW
Panting beneath the burthen of their woolX
Lie round him even as if they were a partY
Of his own Household nor while from his bedZ
He looks through the open door place toward the lakeA2
And to the stirring breezes does he wantB2
Creations lovely as the work of sleepW
Fair sights and visions of romantic joyC2
