When Severn's Sweeping Flood Had Overthrown Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABABCADEDEDE

When Severn's sweeping flood had overthrownA
St Mary's Church the preacher then would cryB
Thus Christian people God his might hath shownA
That ye to him your love may testifyB
Haste and rebuild the pile But not a stoneA
Resumed its place Age after age went byB
And Heaven still lacked its due though pietyC
In secret did we trust her loss bemoanA
But now her Spirit hath put forth its claimD
In Power and Poesy would lend her voiceE
Let the new Church be worthy of its aimD
That in its beauty Cardiff may rejoiceE
Oh in the past if cause there was for shameD
Let not our times halt in their better choiceE
