THIS Height a ministering Angel might selectA
For from the summit of BLACK COMB dread nameB
Derived from clouds and storms the amplest rangeC
Of unobstructed prospect may be seenD
That British ground commands low dusky tractsE
Where Trent is nursed far southward Cambrian hillsF
To the south west a multitudinous showG
And in a line of eye sight linked with theseH
The hoary peaks of Scotland that give birthI
To Tiviot's stream to Annan Tweed and ClydeJ
Crowding the quarter whence the sun comes forthK
Gigantic mountains rough with crags beneathL
Right at the imperial station's western baseM
Main ocean breaking audibly and stretchedN
Far into silent regions blue and paleO
And visibly engirding Mona's IsleP
That as we left the plain before our sightQ
Stood like a lofty mount uplifting slowlyR
Above the convex of the watery globeS
Into clear view the cultured fields that streakT
Her habitable shores but now appearsU
A dwindled object and submits to lieV
At the spectator's feet Yon azure ridgeW
Is it a perishable cloud Or thereX
Do we behold the line of Erin's coastY
Land sometimes by the roving shepherdswainD
Like the bright confines of another worldZ
Not doubtfully perceived Look homeward nowD
In depth in height in circuit how sereneD
The spectacle how pure Of Nature's worksA2
In earth and air and earth embracing seaR
A revelation infinite it seemsB2
Display august of man's inheritanceC2
Of Britain's calm felicity and powerD2
