Valedictory Sonnet To The River Duddon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAACCADEEDFD

I thought of Thee my partner and my guideA
As being pass'd away Vain sympathiesB
For backward Duddon as I cast my eyesC
I see what was and is and will abideA
Still glides the Stream and shall for ever glideA
The Form remains the Function never diesC
While we the brave the mighty and the wiseC
We Men who in our morn of youth defiedA
The elements must vanish be it soD
Enough if something from our hands have powerE
To live and act and serve the future hourE
And if as toward the silent tomb we goD
Through love through hope and faith's transcendent dowerF
We feel that we are greater than we knowD
