It is the first mild day of MarchA
Each minute sweeter than beforeB
The redbreast sings from the tall larchA
That stands beside our doorB
-
There is a blessing in the airC
Which seems a sense of joy to yieldD
To the bare trees and mountains bareC
And grass in the green fieldD
-
My sister 'tis a wish of mineE
Now that our morning meal is doneF
Make haste your morning task resignE
Come forth and feel the sunF
-
Edward will come with you and prayG
Put on with speed your woodland dressH
And bring no book for this one dayG
We'll give to idlenessI
-
No joyless forms shall regulateJ
Our living calendarK
We from to day my Friend will dateJ
The opening of the yearL
-
Love now a universal birthM
From heart to heart is stealingN
From earth to man from man to earthM
It is the hour of feelingN
-
One moment now may give us moreB
Than years of toiling reasonF
Our minds shall drink at every poreB
The spirit of the seasonF
-
Some silent laws our hearts will makeO
Which they shall long obeyG
We for the year to come may takeO
Our temper from to dayG
-
And from the blessed power that rollsP
About below aboveQ
We'll frame the measure of our soulsP
They shall be tuned to loveQ
-
Then come my Sister come I prayG
With speed put on your woodland dressH
And bring no book for this one dayG
We'll give to idlenessI
