To M.h. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRAS TUVW

Our walk was far among the ancient treesA
There was no road nor any woodman's pathB
But a thick umbrage checking the wild growthC
Of weed and sapling along soft green turfD
Beneath the branches of itself had madeE
A track that brought us to a slip of lawnF
And a small bed of water in the woodsG
All round this pool both flocks and herds might drinkH
On its firm margin even as from a wellI
Or some stone basin which the herdsman's handJ
Had shaped for their refreshment nor did sunK
Or wind from any quarter ever comeL
But as a blessing to this calm recessM
This glade of water and this one green fieldN
The spot was made by Nature for herselfO
The travellers know it not and 'twill remainP
Unknown to them but it is beautifulQ
And if a man should plant his cottage nearR
Should sleep beneath the shelter of its treesA
And blend its waters with his daily mealS
He would so love it that in his death hourT
Its image would survive among his thoughtsU
And therefore my sweet MARY this still NookV
With all its beeches we have named from YouW
