To M.h. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRAS TUVW| Our walk was far among the ancient trees | A |
| There was no road nor any woodman's path | B |
| But a thick umbrage checking the wild growth | C |
| Of weed and sapling along soft green turf | D |
| Beneath the branches of itself had made | E |
| A track that brought us to a slip of lawn | F |
| And a small bed of water in the woods | G |
| All round this pool both flocks and herds might drink | H |
| On its firm margin even as from a well | I |
| Or some stone basin which the herdsman's hand | J |
| Had shaped for their refreshment nor did sun | K |
| Or wind from any quarter ever come | L |
| But as a blessing to this calm recess | M |
| This glade of water and this one green field | N |
| The spot was made by Nature for herself | O |
| The travellers know it not and 'twill remain | P |
| Unknown to them but it is beautiful | Q |
| And if a man should plant his cottage near | R |
| Should sleep beneath the shelter of its trees | A |
| And blend its waters with his daily meal | S |
| He would so love it that in his death hour | T |
| Its image would survive among his thoughts | U |
| And therefore my sweet MARY this still Nook | V |
| With all its beeches we have named from You | W |
