Thought On The Seasons Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH JKJK

Flattered with promise of escapeA
From every hurtful blastB
Spring takes O sprightly May thy shapeA
Her loveliest and her lastB
-
Less fair is summer riding highC
In fierce solstitial powerD
Less fair than when a lenient skyC
Brings on her parting hourD
-
When earth repays with golden sheavesE
The labours of the ploughF
And ripening fruits and forest leavesE
All brighten on the boughF
-
What pensive beauty autumn showsG
Before she hears the soundH
Of winter rushing in to closeI
The emblematic roundH
-
Such be our Spring our Summer suchJ
So may our Autumn blendK
With hoary Winter and Life touchJ
Through heaven born hope her endK
