They Called Thee Merry England, In Old Time Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBBCDBEEBFFB

They called Thee Merry England in old timeA
A happy people won for thee that nameB
With envy heard in many a distant climeB
And spite of change for me thou keep'st the sameB
Endearing title a responsive chimeB
To the heart's fond belief though some there areC
Whose sterner judgments deem that word a snareD
For inattentive Fancy like the limeB
Which foolish birds are caught with Can I askE
This face of rural beauty be a maskE
For discontent and poverty and crimeB
These spreading towns a cloak for lawless willF
Forbid it Heaven and Merry England stillF
Shall be thy rightful name in prose and rhymeB
