The Martial Courage Of A Day Is Vain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACCCCCC

THE martial courage of a day is vainA
An empty noise of death the battle's roarB
If vital hope be wanting to restoreB
Or fortitude be wanting to sustainA
Armies or kingdoms We have heard a strainA
Of triumph how the labouring Danube boreB
A weight of hostile corses drenched with goreB
Were the wide fields the hamlets heaped with slainA
Yet see the mighty tumult overpastC
Austria a daughter of her Throne hath soldC
And her Tyrolean Champion we beholdC
Murdered like one ashore by shipwreck castC
Murdered without relief Oh blind as boldC
To think that such assurance can stand fastC
