The Labourer's Noon-day Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD CCEE CCCC CCFF GGHH CCII HHCC

Up to the throne of God is borneA
The voice of praise at early mornA
And he accepts the punctual hymnB
Sung as the light of day grows dimB
-
Nor will he turn his ear asideC
From holy offerings at noontideC
Then here reposing let us raiseD
A song of gratitude and praiseD
-
What though our burthen be not lightC
We need not toil from morn to nightC
The respite of the mid day hourE
Is in the thankful Creature's powerE
-
Blest are the moments doubly blestC
That drawn from this one hour of restC
Are with a ready heart bestowedC
Upon the service of our GodC
-
Each field is then a hallowed spotC
An altar is in each man's cotC
A church in every grove that spreadsF
Its living roof above our headsF
-
Look up to Heaven the industrious SunG
Already half his race hath runG
'He' cannot halt nor go astrayH
But our immortal Spirits mayH
-
Lord since his rising in the EastC
If we have faltered or transgressedC
Guide from thy love's abundant sourceI
What yet remains of this day's courseI
-
Help with thy grace through life's short dayH
Our upward and our downward wayH
And glorify for us the westC
When we shall sink to final restC
