The Germans On The Heighs Of Hochheim Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAADDAEFGFEF

ABRUPTLY paused the strife the field throughoutA
Resting upon his arms each warrior stoodB
Checked in the very act and deed of bloodC
With breath suspended like a listening scoutA
O Silence thou wert mother of a shoutA
That through the texture of yon azure domeD
Cleaves its glad way a cry of harvest homeD
Uttered to Heaven in ecstasy devoutA
The barrier Rhine hath flashed through battle smokeE
On men who gaze heart smitten by the viewF
As if all Germany had felt the shockG
Fly wretched Gauls ere they the charge renewF
Who have seen themselves now casting off the yokeE
The unconquerable Stream his course pursueF
