Sonnets Upon The Punishment Of Death - In Series, 1839 -- Viii - Fit Retribution, By The Moral Code Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDEAFGHGFH

Fit retribution by the moral codeA
Determined lies beyond the State's embraceB
Yet as she may for each peculiar caseB
She plants well measured terrors in the roadA
Of wrongful acts Downward it is and broadC
And the main fear once doomed to banishmentD
Far oftener then bad ushering worse eventE
Blood would be spilt that in his dark abodeA
Crime might lie better hid And should the changeF
Take from the horror due to a foul deedG
Pursuit and evidence so far must failH
And guilt escaping passion then might pleadG
In angry spirits for her old free rangeF
And the wild justice of revenge prevailH
