Scorn Not The Sonnet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEDEFF

Scorn not the Sonnet Critic you have frownedA
Mindless of its just honours with this keyB
Shakespeare unlocked his heart the melodyB
Of this small lute gave ease to Petrarch's woundA
A thousand times this pipe did Tasso soundA
With it Cam ouml ens soothed an exile's griefC
The Sonnet glittered a gay myrtle leafC
Amid the cypress with which Dante crownedA
His visionary brow a glow worm lampD
It cheered mild Spenser called from Faery landE
To struggle through dark ways and when a dampD
Fell round the path of Milton in his handE
The Thing became a trumpet whence he blewF
Soul animating strains alas too fewF
