Miscellaneous Sonnets, 1842 - I - 'a Poet'! He Hath Put His Heart To School Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBABAABCDCDCD

'A poet' He hath put his heart to schoolA
Nor dares to move unpropped upon the staffB
Which Art hath lodged within his hand must laughB
By precept only and shed tears by ruleA
Thy Art be Nature the live current quaffB
And let the groveler sip his stagnant poolA
In fear that else when Critics grave and coolA
Have killed him Scorn should write his epitaphB
How does the Meadow flower its bloom unfoldC
Because the lovely little flower is freeD
Down to its root and in that freedom boldC
And so the grandeur of the Forest treeD
Comes not by casting in a formal mouldC
But from its 'own' divine vitalityD
