Minstrels Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII

The minstrels played their Christmas tuneA
To night beneath my cottage eavesB
While smitten by a lofty moonA
The encircling laurels thick with leavesB
Gave back a rich and dazzling sheenC
That overpowered their natural greenC
-
Through hill and valley every breezeD
Had sunk to rest with folded wingsE
Keen was the air but could not freezeD
Nor check the music of the stringsE
So stout and hardy were the bandF
That scraped the chords with strenuous handF
-
And who but listened till was paidG
Respect to every inmate's claimH
The greeting given the music playedG
In honour of each household nameH
Duly pronounced with lusty callI
And Merry Christmas wished to allI
