Memorials Of A Tour In Italy, 1837 - Xix. - At Florence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBAABCDDEFB

Under the shadow of a stately PileA
The dome of Florence pensive and aloneB
Nor giving heed to aught that passed the whileA
I stood and gazed upon a marble stoneB
The laureled Dante's favourite seat A throneB
In just esteem it rivals though no styleA
Be there of decoration to beguileA
The mind depressed by thought of greatness flownB
As a true man who long had served the lyreC
I gazed with earnestness and dared no moreD
But in his breast the mighty Poet boreD
A Patriot's heart warm with undying fireE
Bold with the thought in reverence I sate downF
And for a moment filled that empty ThroneB
