Lyre though such power do in thy magic liveA
As might from India's farthest plainB
Recall the not unwilling MaidC
Assist me to detainB
The lovely FugitiveD
Check with thy notes the impulse which betrayedC
By her sweet farewell looks I longed to aidC
Here let me gaze enrapt upon that eyeE
The impregnable and awe inspiring fortF
Of contemplation the calm portF
By reason fenced from winds that sighE
Among the restless sails of vanityG
But if no wish be hers that we should partH
A humbler bliss would satisfy my heartH
Where all things are so fairI
Enough by her dear side to breathe the airI
Of this Elysian weatherJ
And on or in or near the brook espyG
Shade upon the sunshine lyingK
Faint and somewhat pensivelyL
And downward Image gaily vyingK
With its upright living treeG
'Mid silver clouds and openings of blue skyE
As soft almost and deep as her cerulean eyeE
-
Nor less the joy with many a glanceM
Cast up the Stream or down at her beseechingK
To mark its eddying foam balls prettily distrestH
By ever changing shape and want of restH
Or watch with mutual teachingK
The current as it playsN
In flashing leaps and stealthy creepsO
Adown a rocky mazeN
Or note translucent summer's happiest chanceM
In the slope channel floored with pebbles brightH
Stones of all hues gem emulous of gemP
So vivid that they take from keenest sightH
The liquid veil that seeks not to hide themP
