Once did I see a slip of earth | D |
By throbbing waves long undermined | E |
Loosed from its hold how no one knew | F |
But all might see it float obedient to the wind | E |

Might see it from the mossy shore | G |
Dissevered float upon the Lake | H |
Float with its crest of trees adorned | I |
On which the warbling birds their pastime take | H |

Food shelter safety there they find | E |
There berries ripen flowerets bloom | J |
There insects live their lives and die | K |
A peopled world it is in size a tiny room | J |

And thus through many seasons' space | L |
This little Island may survive | M |
But Nature though we mark her not | N |

Its place no longer to be found | S |
Yet the lost fragments shall remain | T |
To fertilize some other ground | S |
