Epitaphs Ii. Perhaps Some Needful Service Of The State Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRST U

Perhaps some needful service of the StateA
Drew TITUS from the depth of studious bowersB
And doomed him to contend in faithless courtsC
Where gold determines between right and wrongD
Yet did at length his loyalty of heartE
And his pure native genius lead him backF
To wait upon the bright and gracious MusesG
Whom he had early loved And not in vainH
Such course he held Bologna's learned schoolsI
Were gladdened by the Sage's voice and hungJ
With fondness on those sweet Nestorian strainsK
There pleasure crowned his days and all his thoughtsL
A roseate fragrance breathed O human lifeM
That never art secure from dolorous changeN
Behold a high injunction suddenlyO
To Arno's side hath brought him and he charmedP
A Tuscan audience but full soon was calledQ
To the perpetual silence of the graveR
Mourn Italy the loss of him who stoodS
A Champion stedfast and invincibleT
To quell the rage of literary WarU
