Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Iii. - Xxiii - Confirmation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCACADEDFEF

The Young ones gathered in from hill and daleA
With holiday delight on every browB
'Tis passed away far other thoughts prevailA
For they are taking the baptismal VowB
Upon their conscious selves their own lips speakC
The solemn promise Strongest sinews failA
And many a blooming many a lovely cheekC
Under the holy fear of God turns paleA
While on each head his lawn robed Servant laysD
An apostolic hand and with prayer sealsE
The Covenant The Omnipotent will raiseD
Their feeble Souls and bear with 'his' regretsF
Who looking round the fair assemblage feelsE
That ere the Sun goes down their childhood setsF
