Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Iii. - Xl - Continued Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEEFDF

Mine ear has rung my spirit sunk subduedA
Sharing the strong emotion of the crowdB
When each pale brow to dread hosannas bowedB
While clouds of incense mounting veiled the roodA
That glimmered like a pine tree dimly viewedA
Through Alpine vapours Such appalling riteC
Our Church prepares not trusting to the mightC
Of simple truth with grace divine imbuedA
Yet will we not conceal the precious CrossD
Like men ashamed the Sun with his first smileE
Shall greet that symbol crowning the low PileE
And the fresh air of incense breathing mornF
Shall wooingly embrace it and green mossD
Creep round its arms through centuries unbornF
