Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Iii. - Vii - Persecution Of The Scottish Covenanters Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBBABABCBCCB

When Alpine Vales threw forth a suppliant cryA
The Majesty of England interposedB
And the sword stopped the bleeding wounds were closedB
And Faith preserved her ancient purityB
How little boots that precedent of goodB
Scorned or forgotten Thou canst testifyA
For England's shame O Sister Realm from woodB
Mountain and moor and crowded street where lieA
The headless martyrs of the CovenantB
Slain by Compatriot protestants that drawC
From councils senseless as intolerantB
Their warrant Bodies fall by wild sword lawC
But who would force the Soul tilts with a strawC
Against a Champion cased in adamantB
