Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - Xxxvi - General View Of The Troubles Of The Reformation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECED

Aid glorious Martyrs from your fields of lightA
Our mortal ken Inspire a perfect trustB
While we look round that Heaven's decrees are justB
Which few can hold committed to a fightA
That shows ev'n on its better side the mightA
Of proud Self will Rapacity and LustB
'Mid clouds enveloped of polemic dustB
Which showers of blood seem rather to inciteA
Than to allay Anathemas are hurledC
From both sides veteran thunders the brute testD
Of truth are met by fulminations newE
Tartarean flags are caught at and unfurledC
Friends strike at friends the flying shall pursueE
And Victory sickens ignorant where to restD
