Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - Xxxv - Cranmer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACCDEED

Outstretching flameward his upbraided handA
O God of mercy may no earthly SeatB
Of judgment such presumptuous doom repeatB
Amid the shuddering throng doth Cranmer standA
Firm as the stake to which with iron bandA
His frame is tied firm from the naked feetB
To the bare head The victory is completeB
The shrouded Body to the Soul's commandA
Answers with more than Indian fortitudeC
Through all her nerves with finer sense enduedC
Till breath departs in blissful aspirationD
Then 'mid the ghastly ruins of the fireE
Behold the unalterable heart entireE
Emblem of faith untouched miraculous attestationD
