Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - Xlv - Laud Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDDC

Prejudged by foes determined not to spareA
An old weak Man for vengeance thrown asideB
Laud in the painful art of dying triedB
Like a poor bird entangled in a snareA
Whose heart still flutters though his wings forbearA
To stir in useless struggle hath reliedB
On hope that conscious innocence suppliedB
And in his prison breathes celestial airA
Why tarries then thy chariot Wherefore stayC
O Death the ensanguined yet triumphant wheelsD
Which thou prepar'st full often to conveyC
What time a State with madding faction reelsD
The Saint or Patriot to the world that healsD
All wounds all perturbations doth allayC
