Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - Xli - Distractions Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBCDEFGFE

Men who have ceased to reverence soon defyA
Their forefathers lo sects are formed and splitB
With morbid restlessness the ecstatic fitB
Spreads wide though special mysteries multiplyA
'The Saints must govern' is their common cryA
And so they labour deeming Holy WritB
Disgraced by aught that seems content to sitB
Beneath the roof of settled ModestyC
The Romanist exults fresh hope he drawsD
From the confusion craftily incitesE
The overweening personates the madF
To heap disgust upon the worthier CauseG
Totters the Throne the new born Church is sadF
For every wave against her peace unitesE
