Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - Xii - The Vaudois Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCADDAEFGEDD

But whence came they who for the Saviour LordA
Have long borne witness as the Scriptures teachB
Ages ere Valdo raised his voice to preachB
In Gallic ears the unadulterate WordC
Their fugitive Progenitors exploredA
Subalpine vales in quest of safe retreatsD
Where that pure Church survives though summer heatsD
Open a passage to the Romish swordA
Far as it dares to follow Herbs self sownE
And fruitage gathered from the chestnut woodF
Nourish the sufferers then and mists that broodG
O'er chasms with new fallen obstacles bestrownE
Protect them and the eternal snow that dauntsD
Aliens is God's good winter for their hauntsD
