Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part Ii. - X - Where Long And Deeply Hath Been Fixed The Root Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADDDDDD

Where long and deeply hath been fixed the rootA
In the blest soil of gospel truth the TreeB
Blighted or scathed tho' many branches beB
Put forth to wither many a hopeful shootA
Can never cease to bear celestial fruitA
Witness the Church that oft times with effectC
Dear to the saints strives earnestly to ejectC
Her bane her vital energies recruitA
Lamenting do not hopelessly repineD
When such good work is doomed to be undoneD
The conquests lost that were so hardly wonD
All promises vouchsafed by Heaven will shineD
In light confirmed while years their course shall runD
Confirmed alike in progress and declineD
