Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part I. - Xxxvii - Papal Abuses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACBADEEDFF

As with the Stream our voyage we pursueA
The gross materials of this world presentB
A marvelous study of wild accidentB
Uncouth proximities of old and newA
And bold transfigurations more untrueA
As might be deemed to disciplined intentC
Than aught the sky's fantastic elementB
When most fantastic offers to the viewA
Saw we not Henry scourged at Becket's shrineD
Lo John self stripped of his insignia crownE
Sceptre and mantle sword and ring laid downE
At a proud Legate's feet The spears that lineD
Baronial halls the opprobrious insult feelF
And angry Ocean roars a vain appealF
