Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part I. - Xxxvi - An Interdict Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAADDAEFFEFE

Realms quake by turns proud Arbitress of graceA
The Church by mandate shadowing forth the powerB
She arrogates o'er heaven's eternal doorC
Closes the gates of every sacred placeA
Straight from the sun and tainted air's embraceA
All sacred things are covered cheerful mornD
Grows sad as night no seemly garb is wornD
Nor is a face allowed to meet a faceA
With natural smiles of greeting Bells are dumbE
Ditches are graves funereal rites deniedF
And in the churchyard he must take his brideF
Who dares be wedded Fancies thickly comeE
Into the pensive heart ill fortifiedF
And comfortless despairs the soul benumbE
