Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part I. - Xxix - Danish Conquests Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCEDE

Woe to the Crown that doth the Cowl obeyA
Dissension checking arms that would restrainB
The incessant Rovers of the northern mainB
Helps to restore and spread a Pagan swayA
But Gospel truth is potent to allayA
Fierceness and rage and soon the cruel DaneB
Feels through the influence of her gentle reignB
His native superstitions melt awayA
Thus often when thick gloom the east o'ershroudsC
The full orbed Moon slow climbing doth appearD
Silently to consume the heavy cloudsC
'How' no one can resolve but every eyeE
Around her sees while air is hushed a clearD
And widening circuit of ethereal skyE
