Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part I. - Viii - Temptations From Roman Refinements Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAABBADEEFDF

Watch and be firm for soul subduing viceA
Heart killing luxury on your steps awaitB
Fair houses baths and banquets delicateC
And temples flashing bright as polar iceA
Their radiance through the woods may yet sufficeA
To sap your hardy virtue and abateB
Your love of Him upon whose forehead sateB
The crown of thorns whose life blood flowed the priceA
Of your redemption Shun the insidious artsD
That Rome provides less dreading from her frownE
Than from her wily praise her peaceful gownE
Language and letters these though fondly viewedF
As humanising graces are but partsD
And instruments of deadliest servitudeF
