Ecclesiastical Sonnets - Part I. - Ix - Dissensions Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAACCADEEDFE

That heresies should strike if truth be scannedA
Presumptuously their roots both wide and deepB
Is natural as dreams to feverish sleepB
Lo Discord at the altar dares to standA
Uplifting toward high Heaven her fiery brandA
A cherished Priestess of the new baptizedC
But chastisement shall follow peace despisedC
The Pictish cloud darkens the enervate landA
By Rome abandoned vain are suppliant criesD
And prayers that would undo her forced farewellE
For she returns not Awed by her own knellE
She casts the Britons upon strange AlliesD
Soon to become more dreaded enemiesF
Than heartless misery called them to repelE
