By A Blest Husband Guided, Mary Came Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEBBFF GGHIJJKKLL

By a blest Husband guided Mary cameA
From nearest kindred Vernon her new nameA
She came though meek of soul in seemly prideB
Of happiness and hope a youthful BrideB
O dread reverse if aught 'be' so which provesC
That God will chasten whom he dearly lovesD
Faith bore her up through pains in mercy givenE
And troubles that were each a step to HeavenE
Two Babes were laid in earth before she diedB
A third now slumbers at the Mother's sideB
Its Sister twin survives whose smiles affordF
A trembling solace to her widowed LordF
-
Reader if to thy bosom cling the painG
Of recent sorrow combated in vainG
Or if thy cherished grief have failed to thwartH
Time still intent on his insidious partI
Lulling the mourner's best good thoughts asleepJ
Pilfering regrets we would but cannot keepJ
Bear with Him judge 'Him' gently who makes knownK
His bitter loss by this memorial StoneK
And pray that in his faithful breast the graceL
Of resignation find a hallowed placeL
