At Bologna, In Remembrance Of The Late Insurrections, 1837 - Iii - Concluded Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBAACCDCD

As leaves are to the tree whereon they growA
And wither every human generationB
Is to the Being of a mighty nationB
Locked in our world's embrace through weal and woeA
Thought that should teach the zealot to foregoA
Rash schemes to abjure all selfish agitationB
And seek through noiseless pains and moderationB
The unblemished good they only can bestowA
Alas with most who weigh futurityA
Against time present passion holds the scalesC
Hence equal ignorance of both prevailsC
And nations sink or struggling to be freeD
Are doomed to flounder on like wounded whalesC
Tossed on the bosom of a stormy seaD
