My friends without shields walk on the targetA
-
It is late the windows are breakingB
-
My friends without shoes leaveC
What they loveD
Grief moves among them as a fire amongE
Its bellsF
My friends without clocks turnG
On the dial they turnG
They partH
-
My friends with names like gloves set outI
Bare handed as they have livedJ
And nobody knows themK
It is they that lay the wreaths at the milestones it is theirL
Cups that are found at the wellsF
And are then chained upM
-
My friends without feet sit by the wallN
Nodding to the lame orchestraO
Brotherhood it says on the decorationsP
My friend without eyes sits in the rain smilingB
With a nest of salt in his handQ
-
My friends without fathers or houses hearR
Doors opening in the darknessS
Whose halls announceT
-
Behold the smoke has come homeU
-
My friends and I have in commonV
The present a wax bell in a wax belfryW
This message telling ofD
Metals thisX
Hunger for the sake of hunger this owl in the heartH
And these hands oneV
For asking one for applauseY
-
My friends with nothing leave it behindZ
In a boxA2
My friends without keys go out from the jails it is nightB2
They take the same road they missX
Each other they invent the same banner in the darkC2
They ask their way only of sentries too proud to breatheD2
-
At dawn the stars on their flag will vanishE2
-
The water will turn up their footprints and the day will riseF2
Like a monument to myG2
Friends the forgottenV
