The Sonnets Cxxvii - In The Old Age Black Was Not Counted Fair Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

In the old age black was not counted fairA
Or if it were it bore not beauty's nameB
But now is black beauty's successive heirA
And beauty slander'd with a bastard shameB
For since each hand hath put on Nature's powerC
Fairing the foul with Art's false borrowed faceD
Sweet beauty hath no name no holy bowerC
But is profan'd if not lives in disgraceD
Therefore my mistress' eyes are raven blackE
Her eyes so suited and they mourners seemF
At such who not born fair no beauty lackE
Sland'ring creation with a false esteemF
Yet so they mourn becoming of their woeG
That every tongue says beauty should look soG
