Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFGFHH

O truant Muse what shall be thy amendsA
For thy neglect of truth in beauty dy'dB
Both truth and beauty on my love dependsA
So dost thou too and therein dignifiedB
Make answer Muse wilt thou not haply sayC
'Truth needs no colour with his colour fix'dD
Beauty no pencil beauty's truth to layC
But best is best if never intermix'd'D
Because he needs no praise wilt thou be dumbE
Excuse not silence so for't lies in theeF
To make him much outlive a gilded tombG
And to be prais'd of ages yet to beF
Then do thy office Muse I teach thee howH
To make him seem long hence as he shows nowH
