Sonnet 99: The Forward Violet Thus Did I Chide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACDCDEFEFGG

The forward violet thus did I chideA
Sweet thief whence didst thou steal thy sweet that smellsB
If not from my love's breath The purple prideA
Which on thy soft check for complexion dwellsB
In my love's veins thou hast too grossly dyedA
The lily I condemn egrave d for thy handC
And buds of marjoram had stol'n thy hairD
The roses fearfully on thorns did standC
One blushing shame another white despairD
A third nor red nor white had stol'n of bothE
And to his robbery had annexed thy breathF
But for his theft in pride of all his growthE
A vengeful canker eat him up to deathF
More flowers I noted yet I none could seeG
But sweet or colour it had stol'n from theeG
