The Falconer Of God Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDADDBB EFCCEEEGFF EHIIJEJJHH EKCCBEBBKK

I flung my soul to the air like a falcon flyingA
I said Wait on wait on while I ride belowB
I shall start a heron soonC
In the marsh beneath the moonC
A strange white heron rising with silver on its wingsD
Rising and cryingA
Wordless wondrous thingsD
The secret of the stars of the world's heart stringsD
The answer to their woeB
Then stoop thou upon him and grip and hold him soB
-
My wild soul waited on as falcons hoverE
I beat the reedy fens as I trampled pastF
I heard the mournful loonC
In the marsh beneath the moonC
And then with feathery thunder the bird of my desireE
Broke from the coverE
Flashing silver fireE
High up among the stars I saw his pinions spireG
The pale clouds gazed aghastF
As my falcon stoopt upon him and gript and held him fastF
-
My soul dropt through the air with heavenly plunderE
Gripping the dazzling bird my dreaming knewH
Nay but a piteous freightI
A dark and heavy weightI
Despoiled of silver plumage its voice forever stilledJ
All of the wonderE
Gone that ever filledJ
Its guise with glory Oh bird that I have killedJ
How brilliantly you flewH
Across my rapturous vision when first I dreamed of youH
-
Yet I fling my soul on high with new endeavorE
And I ride the world below with a joyful mindK
I shall start a heron soonC
In the marsh beneath the moonC
A wondrous silver heron its inner darkness fledgesB
I beat foreverE
The fens and the sedgesB
The pledge is still the same for all disastrous pledgesB
All hopes resignedK
My soul still flies above me for the quarry it shall findK
