Rhyme Scheme: A BCDC EFEF GHGH IEIE A JJKK LLMM NNOO PPQRI | A |
- | |
Of all the flowers rising now | B |
Thou only saw'st the head | C |
Of that unopen'd drop of snow | D |
I placed beside thy bed | C |
- | |
In all the blooms that blow so fast | E |
Thou hast no further part | F |
Save those the hour I saw thee last | E |
I laid above thy heart | F |
- | |
Two snowdrops for our boy and girl | G |
A primrose blown for me | H |
Wreathed with one often play'd with curl | G |
From each bright head for thee | H |
- | |
And so I graced thee for thy grave | I |
And made these tokens fast | E |
With that old silver heart I gave | I |
My first gift and my last | E |
- | |
II | A |
- | |
I dream'd her babe upon her breast | J |
Here she might lie and calmly rest | J |
Her happy eyes on that far hill | K |
That backs the landscape fresh and still | K |
- | |
I hoped her thoughts would thrid the boughs | L |
Where careless birds on love carouse | L |
And gaze those apple blossoms through | M |
To revel in the boundless blue | M |
- | |
But now her faculty of sight | N |
Is elder sister to the light | N |
And travels free and unconfined | O |
Through dense and rare through form and mind | O |
- | |
Or else her life to be complete | P |
Hath found new channels full and meet | P |
Then O what eyes are leaning o'er | Q |
If fairer than they were before | R |
