The sons of the Prophet are brave men and boldA
And quite unaccustomed to fearB
But the bravest by far in the ranks of the ShahC
Was Abdul Abulbul AmirB
-
If you wanted a man to encourage the vanD
Or harass the foe from the rearB
Storm fort or redoubt you had only to shoutE
For Abdul Abulbul AmirB
-
Now the heroes were plenty and well known to fameF
In the troops that were led by the CzarG
And the bravest of these was a man by the nameF
Of Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
-
One day this bold Russian he shouldered his gunH
And donned his most truculent sneerG
Downtown he did go where he trod on the toeI
Of Abdul Abulbul AmirG
-
Young man quoth Abdul has life grown so dullJ
That you wish to end your careerG
Vile infidel know you have trod on the toeI
Of Abdul Abulbul AmirG
-
So take your last look at the sunshine and brookK
And send your regrets to the CzarG
For by this I imply you are going to dieL
Count Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
-
Then this bold Mameluke drew his trusty skiboukK
Singing Allah Il Allah Al lahJ
And with murderous intent he ferociously wentM
For Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
-
They parried and thrust they side stepped and cussedN
Of blood they spilled a great partO
The philologist blokes who seldom crack jokesP
Say that hash was first made on the spotQ
-
They fought all that night neath the pale yellow moonR
The din it was heard from afarG
And huge multitudes came so great was the fameF
Of Abdul and Ivan SkavarG
-
As Abdul's long knife was extracting the lifeS
In fact he was shouting HuzzahP
He felt himself struck by that wily CalmuckK
Count Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
-
The Sultan drove by in his red breasted flyJ
Expecting the victor to cheerG
But he only drew nigh to hear the last sighJ
Of Abdul Abulbul AmirG
-
There's a tomb rises up where the Blue Danube rollsP
And graved there in characters clearG
Is Stranger when passing oh pray for the soulJ
Of Abdul Abulbul AmirG
-
A splash in the Black Sea one dark moonless nightT
Caused ripples to spread wide and farG
It was made by a sack fitting close to the backK
Of Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
-
A Muscovite maiden her lone vigil keepsP
'Neath the light of the cold northern starG
And the name that she murmurs in vain as she weepsP
Is Ivan Skavinsky SkavarG
