The "slugging"-match Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFAGAG HIHIJKJK LMLMJNJN AOAOEPEP

A first class professional fightA
I'm really doing the townB
There were thousands on thousands to nightA
To see a man knock a man downB
Two dollars I willingly paidC
To view all this muscle and brawnD
'Twas rather too much I'm afraidC
Or seemed so the minute 'twas goneD
-
-
-
And yet 'tis a study to seeE
The rage gladiatorial of RomeF
And grim Spanish bull baiting gleeE
Adopt an American homeF
That blood thirsty murderous spiteA
Men loudly condemn and possessG
Besieged New York City last nightA
With first class financial successG
-
-
-
Hands gloved to comply with the lawH
Gloves hard to comply with the crowdI
Fists savage as murder could drawH
Cheers heavy and fervent and loudI
Stern hisses and shoutings of WomanJ
When either too tender they foundK
Tremendous applause when a foemanJ
Dropped more than half dead on the groundK
-
-
-
'Twas the soul's blackest hell woven fibreL
All thrilling intensely and fastM
The curse of the Tagus and TiberL
Arrived in New York Bay at lastM
And victor and vanquished I learnJ
Came off with more glittering spoilN
Than teacher or preacher could earnJ
In years of the hardest of toilN
-
-
-
A spectacle pleasing and brightA
Full many good people delightingO
So many good men love a fightA
When somebody else does the fightingO
And 'tis shameful we mildly agreeE
And shout our complainings afarP
But the facts are no worse than are weE
They show to us just what we areP
