The King On The Tower Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGHG IJCJ KLKL

The cold gray hills they bind me aroundA
The darksome valleys lie sleeping belowB
But the winds as they pass o'er all this groundA
Bring me never a sound of woeB
-
Oh for all I have suffered and strivenC
Care has embittered my cup and my feastD
But here is the night and the dark blue heavenC
And my soul shall be at restE
-
O golden legends writ in the skiesF
I turn towards you with longing soulG
And list to the awful harmoniesH
Of the Spheres as on they rollG
-
My hair is gray and my sight nigh goneI
My sword it rusteth upon the wallJ
Right have I spoken and right have I doneC
When shall I rest me once for allJ
-
O blessed rest O royal nightK
Wherefore seemeth the time so longL
Till I see you stars in their fullest lightK
And list to their loudest songL
